Questions and answers

Here’s the final list of questions and answers since the Technet Update tour. Sorry for taking so long to return them, had to wait for the product teams to get back to me. Assumption is the mother of all… So no guessing!

Question 1: Is it possible to import/export the user settings for a Softgrid-package?

Answer 1: User settings are stored in the users profile. If you are using roaming profiles the settings will follow the user wherever he/she logs in. If you want to “export” the settings you just have to copy the application data folder.

Question 2: When will the Swedish language files be available for Windows Server 2008?

Answer 2: Swedish is a wave 3 language, and as such will probably be available in March 2008.

Question 3: Is there any antivirus software available for Windows Server 2008?

Answer 3: I’ve tried out Trend, which works. According to Micke Nyström Forefront works too. I have downloaded a bunch of different ones, will post results separately.

Question 4: Will HP-UX run on Hyper-V if you run it on an Itanium-based server?

Answer 4: The Hyper-V role is only available for the x64-platform. It will not run on Itanium, so the answer is no.

Question 5: Will Windows Media Player / other media player remember where in the movie you were if you close your session on one client and open another session? (Will try and report)

Answer 5: This was if I remember correctly a Softgrid-related question. It does not remember where I was, nor did it continue playing. It does this on the Sun platform according to the questioner, but after some reading it turns out that the Sun solution is completely server based. So when the smartcard is removed, your session is actually halted. Upon insertion in another terminal it’ll start that same session again.

If you still have a question which is left unanswered, send me an email at joachim.nasslander(at)qbranch.se.remove and I’ll make sure it’s answered before X-mas!
