Spent my Saturday attending a windsurfing course here in Stockholm. The conditions were ok, gusty winds and no rain at least. Me and Mdid fairly well I must say, with me falling off the board once and M three. Afterwards we had a picnic in the park, watched the skateboarders and finished off with a tour through the “scary forest”. Today was supposed to be another day filled with surfing, but due to NO wind and rain we decided to cancel. Me, M and F took a coffee at Il Caffé instead and read all the newspapers in a roundtable way.

And for the virtualization people out there, don’t miss that the pre-RC version of SCVMM is available on Microsofts Connect-site. Of course you need to be a member and enroll in the program, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

Back from vacation. Spent a week in Madrid which was really nice in August. The worst day we had 42C, and a cold day it was “only” 33C. We spent the week shopping, sightseeing, eating tapas and drinking wine/beer/sangria. Very good shopping since the big sale is in August… So now I’m all set for an autumn at the office with 2 pairs of shoes (Sisley / Camper), a pair of vests (Massimo Dutti), some pants from Sfera, Zara, Sisley and some shirts from various makers.

Have spent the last few days coding C#. The project is kinda “secret” at the moment, but it addresses a missing feature in Windows Server 2008. Might release it when it’s done, but this depends. Since I’ve been coding in VB-script before this is a totally new experience. Mostly irritating when code doesn’t compile, or when Internet Explorer just decides to throw an error. I’m thinking of taking that beginner course now, since all my developer contacts seems to think it’s about time. Thanks guys!

But I can’t help noticing that the company Martinjetpack.com states that they’re building a jetpack. And when you look at the video you get struck by two things. It’s actually not JET-driven, but it sounds like a lawnmower. And why does it require two guys running around holding the damn thing all the time? If you can’t fly it on your own, scrap the design and start over. (Now it’s three things) The landing gear, wouldn’t that actually disqualify it from the “pack”-category since it’s not possible to carry it around?

As I’ve mentioned before my friend and colleague has developed a tool which makes the Active Directory snapshots functionality useful. The tool is called Directory Service Comparison Tool and the version available at the moment is 1.2.1.

In this movie I’m showing the functionality you get from this nifty utility. You can compare objects in your production Active Directory with the values in your snapshot. Not only that, but you can restore objects from your snapshot as well as single attributes. AND (I’m starting to sound like someone on the home shopping channel now) you can restore groups and group memberships from your snapshot into your Active Directory.

The tool is available in both x86 and x64-versions and you’ll need .Net framework 2.0 to run it.

Download the tool here: http://lindstrom.nullsession.com/?page_id=11

View movie online (fullscreen recommended, 1024×768, 28 MB)

Day three after receiving the email I’m still very happy, and very proud. Having achieved a long term goal feels really good, but it’s not time to relax. New goals are set and we’ll see how it goes in about four months. Won’t tell what it is, but I’ll let you know the result.

Want to say congratulations to my fellow MVP’s, both in Sweden and around the world. Finally got to meet Stefan Schörling tuesday after we both had received the long awaited email. Still have Anders Bengtsson left to meet, it’s kinda fun that you “know” people online but never have met them in real life.

Finally I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that believed in me from the beginning, that’s a whole bunch of people at Microsoft who actually brought me and John along without knowing if we even could speak. Louise has inspired me and got me thinking about how to make every presentation the best (which sometimes fails, but to harm trying). Malu, Andrew, Kevin and a bunch of others at Microsoft in Redmond deserve a big THANKS too, answering all those emails.

Some new MVPs:

Today I got an email from Microsoft stating that I’ve been awarded an MVP, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional.

Microsoft says this about the award:

“Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) are exceptional technical community leaders from around the world who are awarded for voluntarily sharing their high quality, real world expertise in offline and online technical communities. Microsoft MVPs are a highly select group of experts that represents the technical community’s best and brightest, and they share a deep commitment to community and a willingness to help others.

MVPs represent a broad spectrum of Microsoft product users. They occupy many different professions including accountants, teachers, artists, engineers and technologists. MVPs reside in over 90 countries, represent 30 different languages, and cover more than 90 Microsoft technologies.

MVPs tend to be early adopters of new technology and actively communicate their experiences to millions of other technology users. Through their extensive community activity, MVPs help others solve problems and discover new capabilities, helping people get the maximum value from their technology.

Each year, the technical community’s best and brightest are awarded as Microsoft MVPs.”

This definitely calls for a celebration!
